Albuquerque, NM (SportsNetwork.com) - The 24th-ranked Colorado State Rams try to keep their unbeaten record intact on Saturday, as they visit the New Mexico Lobos for a Mountain West Conference clash at WisePies Arena. The Rams had a serious scare just before the end of 2014 as they tangled with Boise State at home, but a double-digit deficit in the first half eventually became a 71-65 win for the hosts at Moby Arena. The victory continued the best start in program history (14-0), and kept the nations longest win streak rolling along. As for the Lobos, they too were in action on New Years Eve, hosting Fresno State in the conference opener, and came out on top, 76-64. The victory was the sixth in the last seven outings for a team that eight days prior lost a shocker to Grand Canyon, 68-65, in Arizona. New Mexico leads the all-time series, one that began in 1940, by a count of 73-43. Colorado State head coach Larry Eustachy has come up empty in all five of his attempts to defeat the Lobos during his 24-year career as a Division I head coach. The Rams made a total of just nine field goals in the first half against Boise State, including 1-of-8 behind the 3-point line, allowing the Broncos to take a 14-point lead less than seven minutes into the meeting. However, CSU recovered in the second half with 56 percent accuracy from the field, 5-of-8 beyond the arc, en route to the six-point win. John Gillon provided a huge boost off the bench as he dropped in a game-high 25 points, shooting a perfect 4-of-4 out on the perimeter and 9-of-11 at the free-throw line in 27 minutes. J.J. Avila and Daniel Bejarano accounted for 13 and 11 points, respectively, the latter also pulling down a team-best eight rebounds. Shooting almost as well from the field (.549) as he is at the charity stripe (.557), Avila leads the team in scoring with 14.4 ppg and is also first with both 7.4 rpg and 28 steals, not to mention second in assists with 46. Stanton Kidd checks in with 12.2 ppg and Bejarano 11.1 ppg, the latter trying to offset his 37.8 percent shooting with 6.6 rpg and 49 dishes. Hugh Greenwood scored 16 points as New Mexico defeated the Bulldogs by double figures in the Mountain West Conference opener. Greenwood converted 3-of-5 shots behind the 3-point line for the Lobos, cleared five rebounds and handed out five assists. Also scoring in double figures for UNM were DeShawn Delaney and Devon Williams with 12 and 10 points, respectively. New Mexico finished the evening connecting on 59.0 percent from the floor overall and a stellar 8- of-10 out on the perimeter. Shaquille ONeal Suns Jersey . While his own team has had any number of opportunities to apply similar heat, it hasnt happened with enough regularity to satisfy the 68-year-old coach. In fact, the Giants 19 sacks, which rank 26th in the league, is a major reason behind their 3-8 record. The Jaguars have a contrastingly impressive 33, ranking third. Their pressures come from all over the field. This would be an ideal opportunity for the Giants to bulk up their anemic stats, as the Jags have allowed a league-high 43 sacks on rookie Blake Bortles. But the now-you-see-it, now-you-dont inconsistency the Giants have shown has offered Coughlin little solace, and only a slight hope that things will improve.Weve been challenging them for the entire year, Coughlin said of his pass rush. Obviously were not doing a very good job of that. To be honest with you, when we call pressure, take a look and see whos getting home, whether it comes out of the secondary, the linebackers, whatever you want to call it. You can talk about pressure all you want, but weve got to have people get to the ball, get to the quarterback. That hasnt happened much.Key players who have supplied pressure in the past have been non-factors this year. Jason Pierre-Paul, the young defensive end who compiled 16 1/2 sacks in the Super Bowl championship year of 2011, has just 3 1/2 this year, as does defensive tackle Jonathan Hankins. Mathias Kiwanuka has just 2 1/2. Situational pass rusher Robert Ayers leads the team with five, and fast-developing, second-year defensive end Damontre Moore has three. As for the blitz, few have gotten home. The Giants have gotten just 1 1/2 sacks from positions outside the defensive front. The biggest indictment of what in previous seasons was a ferocious pressure machine came in the final two minutes of last weeks 31-28 loss to Dallas. After enjoying success pressuring Tony Romo earlieer in the game, and with the Giants leading by four, a four-man rush with Pierre-Paul and Kiwanuka at the ends, failed to penetrate the Cowboys blocking for seven long seconds of the fourth quarter.dddddddddddd That gave Romo plenty of time for wide receiver Dez Bryant to work himself free of cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie deep the end zone. Not surprisingly, Romo and Bryant connected for the winning touchdown with 1:01 remaining. There are a bunch of guys up front who are supposed to be known for (pass rush), Coughlin said, laying the blame more on the players than defensive co-ordinator Perry Fewell. However, Ayers was not even on the field, which was Fewells decision. That led to a long, uncomfortable discussion between head coach and co-ordinator the next day. Moore, who has shown great promise, played just six out of 54 snaps against Dallas. Fewell admitted he should have been part of the final rush package. We have to do a better job of managing his snaps, Fewell said, noting that Moore should be getting between 15 and 25 snaps each game.Regardless of player alignment, the pass rush simply hasnt produced to effective levels. And Jacksonvilles porous offensive line did not create unbridled optimism in Pierre-Pauls outlook. Its not all about (sacks), said Pierre-Paul, who becomes a free agent at years end. But numbers dont lie. Im still trying to get to the quarterback. We cant look at them. You dont know, they might have great protection on the quarterback this week. Thats the great thing about football, you dont know.NOTES: Coughlin said the benching of Weston Richburg last week may have struck a chord in the rookie left guard, and the coach was pleased with his response during practice. Richburg will move back to his starting job now that last weeks starter Adam Snyder has been ruled out with a knee strain. Richburg said he took much motivation from the move. I didnt like it, Richburg said. It felt like a preseason game. I just dont like standing there and not being able to help. It was tough, but I was ready and when they needed a player at the end I was happy that I got a couple of plays in. ' ' '
